1940's Shop Front

Secret Radar HQ
43a High Street

Just an ordinary-looking shop frontage such as you will find in the High Street of a hundred English country towns:--- but this one is different!  For this was H.Q. of some of Ekco's best technical brains. Ekco's technicians needed an unobtrusive spot near to the new factory at "Cowbridge," in which to concentrate on the design of vital war apparatus. They found it by converting this shop and house in Malmesbury's High Street into laboratories and workshops. The exterior was untouched. Here for six years some of Britain's "back-room boys" worked as they had never worked before, striving always for something which would give our men an advantage over the enemy. Few local residents had any inkling that in their own peaceful town the miracles of radar were being developed and highly-specialised radio designed for defensive and offensive warfare.
